Panama were the surprise stars of the evening in California, knocking off the US Men's National Team with a stoppage time goal from Cecilio Waterman. The visitors -- playing without Olympique de Marseille defender Amir Murrillo -- played a cagy match, scoring with their only shot on target, but were rewarded for their strong organization with a place in the final of the CONCACAF Nations League, keeping them in the running for their first major continental title. For the US, Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Tanner Tessmann started and played 68 minutes, while Toulouse FC defender Mark McKenzie played 11 minutes plus added time.
The other CONCACAF match featured a quartet of Canadians -- Ismäel Koné (Stade Rennais), Moïse Bombito (OGC Nice), Derek Cornelius (Marseille) and Jonathan David (LOSC Lille), but despite their best efforts, they were beaten 2-0 by Mexico, who were led by a brace from Raul Jiménez.

In South America, there were three matches played last night -- all in World Cup 2026 Qualifying. Brazil, with Marquinhos (Paris Saint-Germain) and Vanderson (AS Monaco) both in the starting lineup, edged Colombia 2-1 at home, with Vini Jr. netting a late winner. In the other match, Gabriel Suazo's Chile were defeated 1-0 in Paraguay, a result that saw them slip to the bottom of the table, but still within reach of qualifying, as they remain four points off the playoff spot with five games left to play.
