This past summer, in preparation for their UEFA Champions League campaign, Stade Brestois welcomed back Romain Faivre.
The 26-year-old previously spent three years (from 2020 to 2022) with Les Pirates and is now back for a second stint via a loan from Premier League side Bournemouth.
Faivre has made 10 total appearances so far this 2024-25 season, but his best performance for Brest came this past weekend against Stade de Reims, as he recorded a goal and an assist in 60 minutes of action.
A fantastic performance against Reims could be the confidence booster that Faivre needs to have a more significant impact on Brest’s squad. In September, the midfielder spoke to the club’s website about how his return to the club occurred.
“I spent the summer talking with Grégory Lorenzi and Éric Roy, and once I knew coming back here was an option, I didn’t hesitate for a moment. This place is where it all began for me, and I have such good memories here.”
“Some of my friends still live in Brest, and my conversations with Grégory and Éric made me feel confident about returning. Altogether, everything just felt right, and it made coming back an easy decision.”
Faivre also noted that there are players who were with Brest from his first stint and others he played against as an opponent.
"Yes, and I’m very happy about it! I know Hugo [and] Brendan… I also played with Grégoire Coudert at Tours a few seasons ago. I’m familiar with the rest of the squad, having already faced them in the league."
"Adaptation was also part of my thought process, and here, I don’t need to adapt. I know the players, I know the city – it’s perfect!"
Brest not only brought Faivre back because they are familiar with the player but also because he is well-traveled around Ligue 1, so there’s no need for him to adapt to a new league. During his career, Faivre has also spent time at AS Monaco, Olympique Lyonnais, and FC Lorient.
Roy and his team will be competing in three competitions this campaign, and they'll need Faivre to replicate this past weekend's performance if the club wants to call this season a successful one.
